Do you have 5 minutes ?
Hello Dear Readers.HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024 !
I would like you to gift yourself good health this year .I am not asking you to make a new year resolution like " I will never eat even single sweet this whole year ...I will do yoga daily for 1 hour at 5 am this year " . You know what happens to new year resolutions.
I am just asking "Do you have 5 minutes for it ? "
Yes . Five minutes is all that is needed to make a positive change . Please do not given excuses saying" I am very busy ..don't have even 5 min to invest on my health " . Even the PMs & CMs,CEOs &CFOs etc can spare 5 min for their health . Do NOT wait for motivation or particular time ( muhurtham) or special day like New Year day . That some day is TODAY. Simply start . Just do it- the Nike way . Once you start , then you get the motivation to do it more .
Habits are formed easily when :
1) they are pretty simple to start ( you cannot give any excuses to yourself to not do it )
2) you combine with an old habit( an already existing routine ) .
For example : A goal " I want to run a marathon in 3 months time & I will wake up at 5 am in the morning an run 5 km per day in the big stadium 15 min drive from my house ". Do you think a person with so many responsibilities like working women will be able to do it ? No. Very very unlikely .
Almost unfailable goal would look like this : " I will go walk around the block for 5 min when I go out pick up the milk packet outside the gate at 7 am from tomorrow for a week " . This does not need any preparation .No special shoes . No special dress. No specific time . Anyway you are going to get the milk packet daily from the gate ( old habit ) , you just go out and walk for 5 min and come back( new habit ) . It's not that difficult to do it for a week.
Just remember 5S. Simply Start Small Simple Steps.
Say it & do it . Your confidence in yourself builds up .You celebrate your small win . Then you slowly start increasing the time & intensity & achieve bigger goals .
Few of the 5 min habits which you can easily incorporate in your life but have very high positive impact on health :
- Exercise /Movement ( Walking , Jogging, Squats , Pushups, Stretches etc )
- Preparing healthy snacks like fruits/nuts/ vegetables
- Deep slow breathing
- Maintain a gratitude journal
- Walking after every hour of sitting & working
- Turning off the phone& not touching or looking by keeping in another room for sometime daily
- Reading something positive & uplifting just before going to sleep
- Eating unhurriedly & calmly ( without looking at cell phone/TV etc )
There are many other small good activities which can be done in 5 min which can really have tremendous positive impact over long run .
What good 5 minute habits you are going to incorporate from TODAY ?
Thank you doctor for your blogs which always adds on.
ReplyDeleteWill try to give my 5 mins to use stairs instead of lift to go to my home and office which are on 3rd floor.
