The most important key to Happiness


Whatever we do is to be happy . Happiness/well being  has been the focus of all religions, cultures & philosophies for thousands of years .It is also the subject of many scientific studies for past many decades.
I am sharing with  you  The Harvard Study of Adult Development,the longest scientific study in the world on happiness   .
The study was started in Boston in 1938( prior to our independence & much before most of those reading this article were born !)  and has  covered three generations: grandparents, parents, and children. It  analyzed more than 2000 people throughout 85 years of the study. Among the original recruits were eventual President John F. Kennedy .
It  gives us  key insights into  happiness from a scientific point of view . The factors have contributed to happiness are:
Career achievement ,Money ,Positive relationships ,Exercise  & Healthy diet .
Which one among these had maximum contribution to happiness, health & well being ? Take a good guess ...probably you will get it right.
Positive relationships, yes,  positive relationships is the numero uno to  keep one  happier, healthier, & help  live longer.
Robert Waldinger, director of the study, a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School said  “The surprising finding is that our relationships and how happy we are in our relationships has a powerful influence on our health &  taking care of your body is important, but tending to your relationships is a form of self-care too. That, I think, is the revelation.”

  1. Yes. It's true, positive relationship have powerful influence on health

    But it so happen we literally die everyday to maintain or manage the relationship.
